About Codebase

Codebase was originally conceived in April 2008 and after over 16 months of continuous development you see it here before you. The application itself was born out of a lack of a suitable system to run our own in-house development operations at aTech Media. Over the years we've built up hundreds of repositories for a wide variety of different projects & applications and we were in desperate need of a solution to allow us to access these with ease and ensure all code was available easily.

Our Infrastructure

Codebase is run on best-of-breed Dell equipment and hosted in Bournemouth, United Kingdom. For full information about our infrastructure take a look at the aTech Media infrastructure page.

Technology

Codebase is developed in Ruby, using the Rails framework for the web application. In addition to this we have also developed our own libraries which power two of the most important parts of the system. Tripod is a library which provides SCM-agnositic access to repositories allowing us to easily interface with Git, Mercurial or Subversion repositories using a unified API. SCAM is our "source control access manager" and it interfaces directly with the Codebase database to control access to all repositories - regardless of the SCM, your request for access will pass through SCAM.

The Team

We employ a crack1 team of nerds consisting of developers, system administrators and designers.

We're always listening out for new talent, feel free to drop us your details if you're interested in working with Codebase.
